AFTER “I DO” | MONDAY MEMOS | MARYLAND WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

Planning a wedding is tedious. There are many lists and to do’s to get to “I do.” During the engagement, we often talk about timelines, decor, and what types of photos a couple might want captured. The main goal is to have a wonderful day and to take photos of the celebration. But, what about after the event?

Your photography experience isn’t quite over when the wedding ends. In fact, the majority of labor intensive work comes in the days and weeks following. Images need to be imported, backed up, sorted through, and finely edited. This effort is time consuming. Turnaround times can depend on a photographer’s style, demand, workflow, and more. While each photographer has their own course of action when it comes to post-production, today we are going to talk about mine! Below are a few commonly asked questions about my post-wedding process:

WHAT TO EXPECT

When should we expect to see images?

My goal is to show off some of your images within 24-48 hours of the wedding. This “sneak peek” serves as a little instant gratification while you wait for your final gallery. Update that profile photo and share with friends and family who may not have been able to make it! Within two weeks of the wedding, you will also see an extended preview of your images featured here on the AKP blog.

When should we expect the full gallery?

Galleries are typically delivered within the following two to three weeks of your wedding. I use a stylish and easy to use website called Pixieset to host and store your final images. This makes them simple to access, download, and share. It also keeps them safely backed up so they can be revisited at any time.

How many images should we expect to receive?

I promise to deliver 50-100 images per hour. While I am usually on the higher end of that, often exceeding, this is usually dependent on your event. Weddings with lots of details, portrait time, and coverage will often receive more images simply because there is more content to photograph. My most commonly booked package receives eight hours of photography time with two shooters, and will produce 1,000 images on average.

Will we receive a usb or physical storage?

No. The beauty of utilizing a host like Pixieset is that it allows you access to your images immediately. As soon as your gallery is delivered, you have them at your fingertips. You can download full resolution images to print, or low resolution images to share.

Where do we print, and can we still order an album?

My clients all receive professional printing advice to ensure the best possible product and color. AKP couples have the option to order prints through my own lab, or simply take my referral at their own convenience. Albums are offered all year round and can be custom designed to suit your preferred needs. There’s no expiration on printing your memories!

PSA

To end, I want to share a little PSA. Every photographer has a different workflow. These questions are important to ask as you inquire with photographers. This will help to understand and set expectations as you go from single to married, and begin the waiting game for your images. Each artist takes time, love, and care to produce your final gallery. This process will be different for each artist, so please know that the above answers do not reflect the general population of photographers. Always remember to ask your photographer about their road map to completion, directly! <3

I love that you put this info out there so easily. Also, thank you, from your local environmentalist nerd, for not sending a physical USB anymore. Digital delivery is cleaner! :)
