Melissa wrote me weeks ago with an idea. She expressed that she wasn’t into the standard, even cliche, engagement session and in fact, worried that being too posey would just be awkward for her. I heard her concerns, and opened up a dialogue for ideas. I’m so glad I did.

Gavin and Melissa met me in Fells Point right across the street from their wedding venue, Admiral Fells Inn. Melissa’s idea? She wanted to have a date night. She asked if we could explore the streets of Fells Point, and if I’d just tag along. There was no real pressure to accomplish any particular shot, but she knew she wanted them to be more candid and natural. This was an added bonus for me, as it really let me get to know them as a couple.

We started our date night.. and I do say our, because I was an obvious third wheel-in the best way possible… by shooting waterside. We purposefully met late because the pair wanted more of a nightlife feel, so it was the perfect time to see the sun set over the water. This resulted in some dreamy light and some awesome silohuettes.

Also on our adventure, we stopped by Kilwins Chocolates & Ice Cream. Melissa said she remembered coming here as a young girl and having ice cream with her family. Years later, she’s able to share a scoop with the man she will soon call her husband. Not only did it result in some adorable shots, it had a special sentiment which I always enjoy sharing!

After a change of wardrobe, we took to the night! From dancing on piers, having drinks at Waterfront Kitchen, to strolling the streets by local shops-it was a very romantic evening. I’m always excited to explore Baltimore more with my couples. I fall more in love with the people I’m working with here, as well as the home we now share. Engagements are such an exciting time for couples, and on top of that-this has been an exciting year for me and my business.

No doubt that you two are gorgeous both inside and out, but it’s evident you share a beautiful connection as well. Laughing with you two, being third party to your evening, and seeing the city through your eyes was truly a pleasure. I cannot wait for your wedding next year. Bring on 2015!
