BARN AT VALHALLA | RACHEL + LOGAN | DESTINATION WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

I met Rachel as a young school girl. She was closer to my little brother’s age, and they had mutual friends. Honestly-being from a small town, it’s actually pretty hard not to know one another. Rachel was a beautiful girl. Small a town as Clay County, West Virginia is… she’s hard not to notice. Once you start to get to know her, you notice that she’s just as sweet and kindhearted as she is lovely.

I’m sure Logan would agree with me.

When I started my business, I did many types of photography. Weddings, of course, but I also had many family, Senior, and boudoir sessions to fill my time. So long as I had the date available, I always set aside time to shoot Prom minis for Clay County High School. In my very beginnings as a photographer, Rachel booked me for her prom photos.

She would return, years later, and ask me to photograph her college graduation portraits.

It was an exciting moment when I scrolled through social media to find that Rachel had met her soulmate. She had said YES! While I reached out with congratulations, I never mentioned my services. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t hoping she’d tag me in for this affair as well.

And she did!

FIVE FUN FACTS:

ONE. Despite the wedding being outside of Maryland, I had already shot at the venue previously. I hosted a workshop a few years ago at Barn at Valhalla in Chapel Hill, North Carolina so I was familiar with the space!

TWO. Rachel and I both went to the same college: West Virginia University.

THREE. Logan bought the engagement ring and held onto it for MONTHS before proposing. This man has self-control and is a HUGE romantic.

FOUR. Rachel not only did a special First Look with her father, but she surprised him during their dance with a slideshow of images from their past.

FIVE. All of the girls in the bridal party wore fun Lizzo inspired buttons on their pre-wedding pj’s. Rachel surprised me with a pair of my own buttons that had Lizzo on one, and “BOMB LIGHTING” in cute script on the second. I wore them all day.
