Ready for some DC Instagram hotspots?
One of my biggest goals this year is to focus more on personal content as well as content creation. Travel holds a strong second in my photography-inspired passions, but I’m not as excited about shooting landscapes as I am portraiture. New locations can strike up creativity for me as well as my subject. Commute and Create is my new outlet for all things road tripping, mural hopping, and brand expression.
This year I’m launching a nationwide tour for Ashton Kelley Photography. I’ve set up some amazing locations throughout 2020, and I’ll be making myself available for shoots in each city I visit! The AKP Tour will be announced soon and I can’t wait to share more about where I’m headed. If I end up near YOU, I hope we get to connect along the way.
Each week, I’ll be sharing three social media hot spots across the U.S.
For today’s blog, I’m highlighting three spots in Washington DC that I actually hit up just last week. Jess Albins Events joined me after a work meeting for a day of content creation. We had an early (extremely cold) morning and were probably less prepared than usual, but we were intent on knocking out some colorful locations while we were in the area. Scroll down for a few photos and addresses to hit up on your next trip to the nation’s capital.
Artist: Mr. Brainwash
Location: 1309 5th St NE, Washington, DC 20002
Tips: You can park for free in the lot at Union Market. Be sure to actually stop in, as well! The food is amazing and you can find almost anything you want to eat. The “Never Give Up” mural is around the back and super easy to access. It is in the path of the commercial parking lot, so be mindful of trucks/vans coming in and out to do business.
Location: 700 Delaware Ave. SW Washington, DC 20024
Tips: You could likely spend all day here! Go during the week and you’ll find parking easily on the street and have the place to yourself. There was some pretty intense construction happening when we visited, but we still had a lot of room to create multiple backdrops. This place is a dream and couples-it’s an event venue rental! Get married here, please!
Location: 3428 O Street, NW Washington, DC 20007
Tips: Park nearby and walk. Support Greenworks Florist by snagging some fresh flowers during your photo opportunity. We just missed their business hours! The neighborhood is also gorgeous, and by walking you might just stumble upon Georgetown Cupcake. Just don’t stumble past it without walking in and getting a cupcake. You won’t regret it. The line is worth it, and they move quickly! Try the red velvet cheesecake.
