MARYLAND WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER | MONDAY MEMOS | WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHY

I will be completely honest that from a bridal standpoint, we started out with intentions of hiring a wedding videographer. Then, we actually started paying for everything. Somewhere along the way that got shifted to the end of the list, and before we knew it-it was a few weeks away from our wedding and we hadn’t booked someone. While my now husband assured me that it wasn’t a “necessity,” the photographer in me was screaming “girl, you better start networking.”

So, I did. We were really lucky that Courtney, a friend of ours from Sugar Peach Productions, was available. She and an associate flew in from Georgia to hang with us on wedding day and we ended up having a film after all! I am not even joking when I say my husband asked to watch it again just two days ago. This is priceless to us and I’m so glad we made the decision to ensure we added it, even if it broke the bank at the very last minute!

STATING THE OBVIOUS

I think a lot of the following might feel a little obvious. That’s ok. Sometimes it is important to acknowledge the obvious when making a decision this important. After all, it can affect the way you are able to recall events on the best day of your life as those memories fade. While I firmly believe that photos are a thorough way to document an event, adding videography can only enhance the potential of capturing all those little moments.

Photos can capture so much, but there is something very special and beautiful about being able to see a sequence of emotion. I appreciate a photo of a bride giggling as she slips into her wedding gown like no other, but how amazing is it to also be able to hear it played back over beautiful music? It will give you all the feels and chills to have both.

Here are a few reasons why you should have both photography and videography:

  1. While seemingly the same, they are very different. Photo versus video gives you the opportunity to capture the very same moment not just from a different angle, but in a completely different way. You can tell the same story, but intensify it with motion and alternative views. This is so helpful as you celebrate in the years to come, leaning into that footage to remember all the little pieces of the day.
  2. You have a larger production team present to support you. This means more footage, less missed moments, and more creative ideas! From my experience, videographers are trying to ensure we all get the best content possible, and thus-we are all working together to create the most epic possibilities.
  3. You won’t have to regret it. When the flowers have died, the cake has been eaten, the dress is stashed away, and your dancing shoes are tucked in the back of a closet.. what you have left are your marriage (the most important part!), the memories, your photos, and a video. Be sure to prioritize these within your budget. They are SO very priceless.

SHINING EXAMPLES

On Friday, AKP had the opportunity to film a beautiful wedding at Silver Swan Bayside. I am so excited to debut it on Wedding Wednesday here on the blog. I’ll pass on my reminder to check back, but it wouldn’t be a videography post without a few more videos. Without further ado, here are a few favorites from recent weddings.

AKP HIGHLIGHT VIDEOS

After a year of practice, I’ve recently added highlight reels as an add-on with photography or full feature films a la carte. My appreciation for video has grown so much, and I really believe that it has also made me a better photographer by challenging me in new ways. Check back on Wednesday to see AKP’s first full feature wedding film! Mark and Karissa had a wonderful day and we are eager to share it with the world. For now, here is one of my highlight features from a wedding shot alongside Images by Amber Robinson in Cancun, MX.

I can’t wait to see the finish product from Karissa and Mark’s wedding! That is one of the handful of things I wish I could go back and change about my wedding. We didn’t hire a videographer, and kinda regret that now years later we don’t that different emotion capture

I am soo glad we ended up hiring a videographer after reading this! It was on the bottom of our list, as we are paying for the wedding ourselves, but I soon realized I’m going to be so disappointed if I’m not able to look back on my day through video!

Personally, I always encourage our couples to get a videographer if they can. It may seem like something unnessecary but even though I hate (strong word- but true) my wedding video, I am still thankful to have a handful of those moments caught on camera. No matter what seeing something in “live-action” is a great memory. In the end, I would rather have those few moments than regret not having something at all. I am so excited for you to be offering Video now!
